Who Really Made Your Mattress?
The Bottom Line Be very careful where you shop, and what company you purchase from. Your warranty might not me worth the paper it is written on.
In virtually 35 years of marriage, we have bought two king-size sets! Later all, they should live a long time and create your sleeping comfortable, or so I believed.
Our first was a Spring Air foam set. I ideliberately was not seeking foam, but the salesman stated since my husband was in the military, and we to be sure moved quite a bit, an inner spring king sized mattress may not come in many of the positions we'd live. I made up my mind that since the foam delivered more selections, I ready-made that my purchase. We truly loved this mattress, and although we owned it for more than 30 years, it was really quite comfortable until the last five. I paid $300 in 1969, and would say that we got our moneys worth.
After discarding of the set that was practically a family member, I imagined it would be nice to take one of those “new” pillow top mattresses. As we roamed around bed and furniture shops, taking heed to all sales story, I honestly believed I was connected a used car lot! Not only was I confronted with outstanding “sticker shock” there were so numerous different beds, and prices ranging upwards of $10,000. No doubt you know the routine, walk around, lie down for a few minutes, and suppose you have encountered one that is just suitable. Ours was around $1300.
So how do you buy a mattress? Well, it is obvious we did not do it correctly as after two years our King Koil pillow top is the most comfortless bed I have slept on. We have grumbled morning after morning about how awful we feel, and I finally decided to check on the warranty and practise my rights as a consumer. Insignificant trouble, you actually do not get any rights, and the determination of what occurs to you, your warranty, and your bed, is something you have little to say about.
The first thing I arranged was consult King Koil on the Internet. They made an appealing website, and a contact form. I completed all the proper blanks, and picked up a prompt resolution. I was said that although I purchased my bed in Montana, I should reach the localized factory that was about four hours away. I telefaxed them a transcript of my receipt along with a letter identifying the trouble. Yes, they require you to narrate them what is wrong. Frankly, that Is not easy, but when you tell you do not get a good nighttimes sleep, and your back hurts, that is more or less the best I could come up with.
At this point I was told that the company is a enfranchisement, and every industrial plant makes its own beds and gives them those cute little names! You’ve seen them “comfort dream and lillypad” for an exemplar. I talked with the managing director of the plant in Washington where my bed was made, and fundamentally was told that the local factory would pick it up, take it away for three to four weeks and check what was wrong! Now that really Is not very good consumer relations as when I inquire what I was so sleep on, they said that was not their trouble.
Recall I have this fantasy warranty card that tells repair or replace, pro-rated of course, but I did not get to ballot. My ten-year warranty really stands for nothing but a leading headache and inconvenience. When I determined to get “firm”, pardon the pun, they could have cared less. The local plant had never heard of “my bed” and it turns out that these plants make up beds for all different companies to their specifications and slap a different label on it.
Frankly, you have no hint what you purchased. It frankly appears worse than attempting to apply the warranty on tires on a new car. They are warranted by the manufacturer, but endeavor and acquire them to do something about a tire trouble.
So, how do you hopefully get satisfaction from a bed buy? Remember, this is not an cheap purchase, and should be one that you have for several years. As I did some calling around I found that the outstanding chain bed shops seem to be more willing to assist a customer with a defective mattress. They incline to remain firm behind their product, especially if you have moved. Now this does not help me, but I would credibly incline in the direction of making my purchase at a nationwide bed specialty shop.
Some shops will give way you a 30-day return policy if you are not pleased, but interesting sufficient, in the first two years of the life of a mattress; it will deteriorate 15%. And so if you believed it was great when it was new, you may not discover that the case afterward you have owned it for a long time. Of course, that is why you get the guarantee!
Honestly, I am very frustrated with the method the bedding industry manages troubles, and was actually astonished that this specific company is a franchise!
So can I give you any genuinely good advice? Credibly only two matters, one buy a little firmer than you think you desire since it will soften up, and I would stick to a bed specialty shop.
If you sleep an average of eight hours a night, you will spend 29,120 hours in a bed over a ten-year period! That is a lot of time to be painful!
Updated selective information:
I think it is very considerable to hold on the consumer updated with a situation as important as warranty support on a bed!
I have received several e-mails from King Koil, asking "What can we do to help you?" When I respond "Get me a new bed under the warranty that I have, 10 years no proration" they don't answer me.
After going after everyone to get some help, I went back and called the factory in Spokane where this bed was made, and fundamentally was stated that since I moved, "it wasn't their problem" You would think that at least they would offer to send a factory rep out from somewhere to look at the bed, nothing!
When I experienced the store in Whitefish, Montana where the purchase was attained, was going to stand behind the warranty, I was very astonished that the proprietor assured me, "It's not my trouble".....and I was recited that if I wanted the bed fixed, I require to send out it to a factory in Illinois! This would be at my disbursement. Can you guess the cost to ship a king size, double pillow top mattress, over 350 miles? Total nonsense.
So consumer, study the fine print on the warranty, and then do not consider most of it. There is to be sure that buying a mattress is worse than purchasing a automobile. At least if you get a trouble with a vehicle that is under warranty, you do not have to take it back to the dealer you purchased it from.
This mattress business concern is a scam, so be careful, and stay away from King Koil. They are all franchises!
